Right at the corner of Wythe and Division St in South Williamsburg is this sign for the “Novelty Polyethylene Bag Corp.”
I’m not sure how old it is, but the fact that the telephone number doesn’t include an area code might be a hint that it’s got some years on it (apparently, the company was founded in 1960 and is still in business).
Anyway, I’ve always loved this sign for the Novelty portion, which advertises “All Kinds of Trash Bags At Big Savings!”
Every time I drive by, I always wonder just how many different kinds of trash bags they could possibly have (and how big the savings could be!).

It’s probably from the mid-1970s. The typeface bears a close resemblance to the Pump typeface designed by Bob Newman around 1970:

i used to ride past this every day down to bed stuy when i was living there. although i hate to see an old sign get painted on, that setup throw up is so fuckin classic.
