Looking Through The Sixth Avenue Peepholes
Scouting NY recently celebrated its fifth birthday!! That's five years and over 650 posts dedicated to exploring New York's mysteries and hidden treasures. Plenty more articles to post coming soon, but this is the the one time of the year when I politely ask, with hat in hand:
If you’re a fan of Scouting NY and have enjoyed my work over the past year, would you consider making a donation to help me make my first movie? If you think I do a good job with my site, all I can say is that I’ve been working a thousand times as hard on my movie, and literally every penny counts. And you even get a special Scouting NY sticker/magnet as a thank-you gift! Click here to donate!
Last week, I got an email from photographer Thanassi Karageorgiou about a really cool little find on Sixth Avenue at 43rd Street.
Grace Plaza, above the School at the International Center of Photography, is currently undergoing renovations. But, if you take a moment to look at the construction wall…
While it’d be insanely cool if the above was a full 3-d installation set, it’s actually a photograph, taken by a recent ICP alum.
This is such a great idea – Nothing is more boring than a construction wall, and I love that they’ve found a way to not only make it interesting, but actually intriguing!
There are ten Peep Hole photos in total, all by recent ICP graduates. My favorite pictures are the ones that transport you away from the noise and traffic of Sixth Avenue:
If ICP ever does another round, I’d love to see a series in which the viewer was clearly “peeping” in on something they normally wouldn’t be able to – the possibilities are really endless.
Next time you’re around 42nd and Sixth Avenue, be sure to check out the peep holes!
Special thanks again to Thanassi for the heads up – be sure to check out his excellent photography here, as well as his blog here.
It's fundraising week on Scouting NY, and if you liked the post you just read, would you consider making a donation to help me make my first movie? The goal is $30,000, and already, 1,194 generous readers have donated $25,541.00. Just $5 or $10 can make a difference - AND you get a snazzy Scouting NY sticker or magnet as a Thank-You gift!
