Sorry I haven’t been posting much recently – much of the scouting phase of my current film has finished, and we now spend our days getting individual locations ready for filming. Not to worry, more to come soon.
Anyway, this is probably only of interest to those who live in the Williamsburg area (and really not that interesting at that). But as most New Yorkers are aware, the Williamsburg riverfront was recently killed with a bunch of new eyesores condo high-rises. Someone apprently decided that the neighborhood could be further brightened up with some fresh new street signs, hence the sudden appearance of shiny green signs a few months ago.
Except someone fucked up and wrote them all wrong by writing the number endings: “1st” instead of “1″, “2nd” instead of 2, “7th instead of 7,” etc. Some poor bastard had to go around with little green stickers to cover up their mistake.
You can still see the error on North 7th, which hasn’t been corrected. Just a minor bit of Williamsburg condo stupidity that amuses me.

PS – Anyone know what you call the endings to numbers? Nd, st, rd, etc.? There must be a word, but I can’t find it anywhere! UPDATE! – Thanks guys, cardinal vs. ordinal!

It’s ordinal numbers versus cardinal numbers.
They’re called ordinal numbers (as opposed to cardinal numbers). I’m a nerd. But that’s one of the reasons that I follow this site.
I don’t know the proper term for it but I’ve assigned ‘appendages’.
They are called “ordinal indicators”.
See for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinal_indicator
Ok, I don’t get it – why not have the “th” and “nd” on the signs? Is it because it’ll be confused with other “8th” streets etc?
