I was driving with my fiancee to visit Stony Kill Falls, a gorgeous waterfall a couple hours north of the city. As we turned off the highway and made our way down some backwoods roads, we passed by this old abandoned house. Nothing particularly special, other than looking like the sort of place to fuel the campfire stories of any kids living in the area….
But as we continued on, I looked back in my rear view mirror and noticed something…
Where the heck did half of this house go?!?
You know what? I don’t want to know. Some things are better left to the imagination. Or the campfire.

PS – FYI, Stony Kill Falls is 1) an absolutely gorgeous 80 foot waterfall totally worth the drive, and 2) a great FREE swimming hole to cool off in the summer (especially if you’ve got a dog). Just watch out for the nudists who frequent the area (and the local snake population that like to scare city slicker location scouts). Here’s my guess: the house was cut in half in order to be moved (this is occasionally done). Something happened during the moving process and when one half was damaged or destroyed, the other half was abandoned on empty land along the route.

Maybe it was built up against another structure like a trailer. You see that a lot in the south.
Too bad you can’t see what the 2 signs say that are on the front of the house, might give some insight as to what the deal is. Do you remember what road this was on ?

I’m always amazed at the things you notice that most of us just pass by. Speaking of houses, here’s an unusual one I saw across the street from a CVS I stopped at on Park Ave in Wildwood, NJ. I’m dying to know the story behind this one if anyone knows it.

There’s really not that much snow in Wildwood, NJ. It’s a shore town and the snow tends to only accumulate further inland.
I you like amazing tall waterfalls a few hours north of the city, then you need to check out Taughannock Falls just outside of Ithaca, NY! There is also Ithaca Falls, Buttermilk Falls, and several others – but Taughannock is the tallest at 215 feet. Way cool experience. Plus Ithaca is UBER cool!
