Travel the World by Sea or Air
On 8th Ave btw. 39th and 40th is this really great faded travel sign, complete with an arrow on the right side pointing down to where a (long gone) travel agency used to be. I love finding remnants of old travel ads throughout the city. In a world of Travelocitys and Expedias, the idea of…
The Secret Pool In The Woolworth Building
Recently, I had the pleasure of scouting the Woolworth Building, which, as far as I’m concerned, is as close as you can come to visiting a royal palace in New York. From its towering vaulted ceilings… …covered in unbelievably ornate mosaics…
How To Leave New York via 1940: Scouting LaGuardia’s Marine Air Terminal
If you ever want to experience what flying was like in the 1940’s, simply take a trip to the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia: Built in 1939 to handle sea planes, the art deco Marine Air Terminal is New York’s only surviving terminal from the first generation of air travel… …and very little has changed…
The Staircase Animals of Bethesda Terrace
For those that have never been, Bethesda Terrace in the middle of Central Park is one of the most beautiful spots in New York. A two-tiered plaza leads to an incredible fountain and a lake beyond, in which people row boats around. The area is lush with foliage, and on a warm, blue-sky summer day…
Elephants on East 10th Street
This building, 9 East 10th Street (once the home of author Dawn Powell), features a really, really neat building number sign. It’s beautifully ornate, especially on this otherwise unremarkable building. I love the African theme, sort of feels like it should be on the outside of a safari club (note: commenters are saying this is…
The Old Operating Theatre on Columbus Ave
I was scouting around the West 50’s recently when I noticed a really interesting building on West 59th I’d never seen before, tucked away in the shadows of the bland modern high-rises surrounding it. The building looked to be in great shape despite its age, and two features in particular caught my eye… First, this…

Wonderful! What building is this view from?
I second that, where is this building?! Such a gorgeous view
Gorgeous. I think I might stay in there all day. The reality is that whoever lives there probably doesn’t even notice it anymore.
I don’t live in the city, but neither of my bathrooms have windows. One has a skylight though.
I have the opposite view from the Brooklyn/Dumbo side on the 29th floor in JCondo.
Is this a view from the Muni bulding? This looks just like what I used to see from the handicapped stall in the ladies room on the 17th floor when I worked there.
it would be nicer if the bathtub was higher.. that way you would really be enjoying the view when you’re sitting in the tub..
With a view like that who needs to read a book while on the throne.
Thats amazing, i would love to live there.
The men’s room at the Rainbow Room is up a narrow flight of stairs – standing at the urinals you have an incredible unimpeded view of Central Park. Fortunately the opposite isn’t also true…
The bath Room in the crysler bldg has a better view
