Sniffin’ Around Sniffen Court
The best way to encounter Sniffen Court is to stumble upon it by accident…which is exactly what I did the other day as I was walking up East 36th Street. From down the street, it’s nearly invisible… …and then, halfway down the block, you come across this wonderful little alley lined with charming two-story brick…
Scouting The Remains of Brooklyn’s Incredible Paramount Movie Theatre
In my travels through the city, I’ve driven down the northern end of Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn roughly eight billion times… …and I have never once given a second thought to the nondescript office building at Dekalb, part of the Long Island University campus. And I don’t think I ever would have if I hadn’t…
The Ghostbusters Firehouse Dressed For Christmas
This isn’t a secret or anything, but Hook & Ladder #8 has been dressed for the season and looks great, especially in the snow storm that hit today (click the picture and look at the biggest size on Flickr for the full effect). You probably recognize this iconic Manhattan firehouse from a number of films…
The 1920s Movie Theater Hidden In A Rite Aid
Don’t let the squat little Rite Aid storefront on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint fool you… It has a big history. A movie theater for most of its life, you can see it below in 1928 when it was known as the Fox Meserole showing silent films (the advertised Baby Mine was made in 1928 –…

Wonderful! What building is this view from?
I second that, where is this building?! Such a gorgeous view
Gorgeous. I think I might stay in there all day. The reality is that whoever lives there probably doesn’t even notice it anymore.
I don’t live in the city, but neither of my bathrooms have windows. One has a skylight though.
I have the opposite view from the Brooklyn/Dumbo side on the 29th floor in JCondo.
Is this a view from the Muni bulding? This looks just like what I used to see from the handicapped stall in the ladies room on the 17th floor when I worked there.
it would be nicer if the bathtub was higher.. that way you would really be enjoying the view when you’re sitting in the tub..
With a view like that who needs to read a book while on the throne.
Thats amazing, i would love to live there.
The men’s room at the Rainbow Room is up a narrow flight of stairs – standing at the urinals you have an incredible unimpeded view of Central Park. Fortunately the opposite isn’t also true…
The bath Room in the crysler bldg has a better view
