A Snowstorm In Brooklyn

So New York’s latest snowstorm (that’s five so far!) is in full force. I ran out a few minutes ago to take some pictures for those who aren’t lucky enough to be here to enjoy it. 🙂

In a string of bad snow storms, I’d say this one’s topping ’em all…and does this weather forecast seriously have two more days of snow predicted for Friday and Saturday??

Good news is: this is some seriously great packing snow. At least one snow man has already gone up, complete with mustache and charcoal briquette eyes (which, were they to be lit on fire, would make for one very brief moment the coolest snowman ever):

Bad news is: the roads are right now covered in a four-inch thick layer of packed down, VERY slippery snow. City-wide bus service is already canceled. Below, my (rental) car as of 1 AM. I’m terrified of what it will look like in six hours.

Well, this guy probably won’t be riding it for a while anyway…

Overheard from one of these ladies stumbling out of a nearby bar: “how long were we in there for??”

Piling up…

At least the trees are looking pretty!

Good luck tomorrow!

PS – Send along interesting pictures of your neighborhood under snow and I’ll post ’em here!

  1. I just walked home from the station before mine in this mess due to my D train not running. I had to stop every 20 yards to regain my strength (long uphill climb, almost a mile walk). What kept me going was, “oh look! so pretty!” and the other sunset-parkers slogging their way home, each of us giving the other the silent, head nod as if to say “This is how we do, right?” Good luck tomorrow to you too, Scout!

  2. Scout,
Thanks for posting these pictures! Beautiful NYC moments! I miss the city, so your postings bring it alive for me! Enjoy playing in the snow later today!

  3. I know all my NYC friends are sick of the snow already but it’s soooo pretty and I haven’t had any here on the West Coast. First one of you to buy me a ticket home, I’ll shovel for ya until springtime!

    Thanks for these, Scout!

  4. You take the best pictures! Makes me want to get back to New York for another visit. After the snow melts.

  5. Love the photos. They are pretty, but this time of year I am not sorry to be living in the desert. 35 at night, 70 in the daytime, clear blue skies, no snow. This is the time of year I can gloat a little bit, but I do wish I could send some of the sunshine to warm you all up! Stay warm!

  6. Great shots. Much more scenic and interesting than being stuck on Nebel Street at Randolph Road in Rockville MD. A big shout out to the staff at Metro Emergency Animal Clinic for keeping me dry and giving me tea and blankets until the roads were plowed. I’d much rather have been in a bar back in NYC, and walking home to a real neighborhood in Brooklyn. Maybe in my next act.

  7. I went out and about today around City Hall and it was beautiful- we even had a little sun. Just had to watch out for large chunks of snow falling from tall downtown buildings…Posted pictures on my blog here🙂 Later in the day I spotted some people (who I can only guess are among those who did not get a snow day…) having a snowball fight on the roof of an office building around 4pm– hope to upload those pics tomorrow!

  8. The first picture reminds me of the scene from It’s A Wonderful Life when George Bailey is running through the streets of Bedford Falls.
