A Very Unusual Marriage Proposal in Queens

For the past week, I’ve been searching meticulously through Google Maps satellite view for a particular style of rooftop, and as I made my way across Long Island City…

I happened to notice something unusual on one of the rooftops…

A marriage proposal!

But what was the story behind this? Did the suitor have his or her beloved read it from a neighboring rooftop? Or better yet, as they were passing over in a plane or helicopter? Or maybe the plan was to wait for Google Satellite view to update, then send a link with the simple instruction: “Zoom In.

After some digging, I found the answer in this Post article : it was a helicopter proposal by a real estate agent (she said yes).

No word on whether the sign is still there, but feel free to use my Google Maps zoom-in idea for yourself (which, in retrospect, has to be the all-time nerdiest, least-romantic way to propose to someone).
