Bad News on the BQE

One of the more tedious aspects of film locations work is writing up directions to set. You have to do them from multiple starting positions, include return directions, give “Commercial route” versions for trucks and make sure the bridge clearances are high enough, only to ultimately have every Hollywood-type call you frantically on the morning of the shoot completely lost and scared they’re in a “bad part of town.” Sometimes, you just want to copy down the Google Maps route and be done with it…But this accident I passed on the BQE is a pretty good reason why you should run them at least once…

  1. Hey now, those “LA natives” are the ones who’d never venture out of the confines of their trendy little enclaves. Put them down in East LA, South LA, Skid Row or any bus and they’ll freak out just the same.
For shooting locations in NY, do you guys put up those signs that are ubiquitous out here? Yellow signs attached to poles directing everyone involved to the location (usually using some codename). If not, that’s probably the other reason why “LA-natives” can’t find their way around.

  2. Point noted – I meant to imply your stereotypical Hollywood-types and instead denigrated every LA resident – my apologies! Fixed it in the post.

Yes, our PA’s put up the yellow signs, though I’m intrigued by the idea of assigning a location a code name. We’re not that cool.

  3. Nice post. I be taught something tougher on totally different blogs everyday. It should at all times be stimulating to read content from other writers and follow just a little something from their store. I抎 prefer to use some with the content on my weblog whether or not you don抰 mind. Natually I抣l give you a hyperlink on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Seen this situation late at night on the FDR once. A huge rig on the FDR was quite a sight to begin with.
