Please Donate To Scouting NY!
Last Tuesday, Scouting NY celebrated its third birthday – hooray! In the past year alone, that’s over 125 new articles with more than 1,300 pictures. So here is my once-a-year fund-raising drive request to you, my readers: If you’re a fan of Scouting NY, would you please please consider making a donation to my film fund?…
The Ramones Guide To New York City
Walk down East 2nd Street off of Bowery, and you’ll pass by Albert’s Garden, a small community garden midway up the block. If you happen to visit on a day when the gates are open, head inside and you’ll find a beautiful little East Village oasis maintained by local volunteers. But for something particularly special,…
Can You Help Scout Make His First Movie?
If you’re a fan of Scouting NY, would you consider making a donation to my film fund? I’m trying to make my first movie, and if you’ve enjoyed my work on this site (to date, more than 650 articles and over 12,000 pictures!), all I can say is that I’ve been working a thousand times…
1920’s Atlantic City in Greenpoint, Brooklyn
After watching the premiere of Boardwalk Empire last night, I was really excited to check out the Atlantic City set for myself, which was built in a parking lot in northern Greenpoint. A locations friend who lives in GP pointed me to a vacant lot on Commercial Street and Clay Street, and I hopped on…
Are Scouting NY Readers From NY?
I just wanted to give a huge thanks to the 1,378 readers who have pushed my film fund past the $30,000 goal. Because of your help, I’m that much closer to achieving my dream of becoming a director, and I’m incredibly grateful for every donation received. When I started Scouting NY over five years ago,…
Is Scouting NY As Enjoyable As A Pack of Highlighters? A Handy Guide!
This evening, I received an inquisitive e-mail from an anonymous reader with regard to my 3rd Annual Scouting NY fund-raising drive: Hmmm. An interesting question. How to put a value on content you’re used to getting for free? I’ve thought long and hard about it, and I think the only way is to compare the…

Nice job tracking these down.
I loooove this movie! Every time I watch it I mourn anew the loss of those great old wood turnstiles that used to be in the subway system, the wood smoothed and discolored by years of hands touching them, the real push you had to give them (because they were not light), the clunking sound they made as they turned to let you through.
Can’t wait until Monday!
Though it’s marked the 96 St. Station, the modern picture looks like my 72nd Street Station… of course, the movie shot could be the 72nd St. Station made to look like the 96th for some reason.
It is definitely the 72nd Street station. The message on the glass says so. The 96th Street station has been remodeled extensively in the last few years, so it’s all changed around, but I think until recently the only entrances were from the sidewalk, nothing from the boulevard strip as on on 72nd. So the movie may have used 72nd to shoot. Either one would make sense with the scenes in Riverside Park.
Come out and play-e-ay!

Dude! Cool! I was wondering when you’d get around to the Warriors!!
Warriors. I love this flick. Can’t wait to see this done in your inimitable style.
The statue seems to be very worn now since the time of the movie, it needs restoration.
LOVE that movie! Can’t wait to see your post on this!
P.S. The 96th St station is still there, isn’t it? I seem to remember it’s on the Broadway median, but it’s not in use anymore.
The 96th St station house that is . . .
