Hell’s Kitchen

One of the few perks about film scouting is that they give you $10 for lunch. I ate at Island Burger today, a hole-in-the-wall burger joint in Hell’s Kitchen (west side 40’s), where I was scouting. As I was sitting on a stoop eating my burger, a gust of wind came and blew all these little leaves off, creating a blizzard of yellow and orange. Fall is especially pleasant when the temperature is still as warm as its been.

I forget what street I was walking on, but I passed this window with a sign beside it:

Sort of depressing that the blinds are pulled and there are bars over the windows.

This is a plumbing company on W 45th Street. I love the sign on the left:

Finally, one of the cool things about the west 40’s are the three or four blocks of exposed train tracks that lead to Penn Station. It amazes me no one has built any high rises over these yet, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens in another ten or twenty years.

  1. I live in Hell’s Kitchen. It didn’t take 10-20 yrs. for buildings to go up over the tracks. A monsterously ugly mishmash of buildings have gone up on 44/45th between 10th and 11th Ave.
