Sunday Field Trip! How To Visit The Valencia Movie Palace
Update: I was disappointed to receive word today that several people went to see the Valencia, only to be told that services were in session and to come back at a later point. Apparently, the church was not expecting such a large turnout, and is trying to figure out a better way to allow people…
Can You Help Scout Make His First Movie?
If you’re a fan of Scouting NY, would you consider making a donation to my film fund? I’m trying to make my first movie, and if you’ve enjoyed my work on this site (to date, more than 650 articles and over 12,000 pictures!), all I can say is that I’ve been working a thousand times…
NM to TX: White Sands, Rockets, Visiting A True Ghost Town, & A Very Special Grave
It’s pretty amazing to be driving along seeing this out the window… …then taking a slight detour and finding yourself in a drastically different world: When we left Las Cruces, our goal was to make it to San Antonio by the end of the day. We had two routes to choose from: the southern route…
Keys Please
Over the next week, my girlfriend and I will be taking a mini-roadtrip from Orlando to Key West, primarily focusing around the Keys. I’m really excited – the Overseas Highway is something I’ve been dying to visit since…well, since I first saw it get blown up in True Lies, but I digress. Anyway, you guys…

I always wear my top hat on the one train.
Are there any remnents left of any Manhattan el lines? I know the highline, but was that really an el?
No traces left in Manhattan, just a segment in the Bronx.
The #1 train going up Broadway becomes elevated for one station at 125th Street. It becomes elevated again at the northern tip of Manhattan, just before continuing into the Bronx.
The High Line was an elevated freight line, not a passenger el. There aren’t any remnants of any els left in Manhattan that I know of, no, they were all torn down.
The Broadway local (#1 train) runs above ground across Manhattanville, just north of Morningside Heights. That, essentially, is an el.
It’s not really an el, it’s a viaduct…it’s simply there to span the low section in the topography where the ground dips below the level of the subway.
It’s hard to comment on this without falling into a meme-perpetuating trap, so I’ll just say: “Wow!” and “Fun!” 😀 .
