The Sign-Eating Tree of Richmond Hill
I was scouting in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens today when I saw this tree that appears to be devouring its “SLOW – CHILDREN AT PLAY” sign. I’ve seen signs with bark wrap-over before, but here it seems like the tree is on the verge of gulping the sign down. From the side, you…
Reader Emails About The Little Abandoned Terra-Cotta Building!
I was thrilled that so many of you love the little building under the 59th Street bridge as much as I do. I received a bunch of emails about the old Terra-Cotta Works, including one from someone whose great great grandfather worked there from around 1910 to 1920 and took of the building when it…
Gone Forever: The Ghost House In Queens
In June ’11, I wrote about one of my favorite “haunted house”-like properties in New York City, a dilapidated yet once beautiful Victorian located at 3103 37th Avenue in Queens: Gone forever: Several readers sent me this article in the Queens Gazette about its recent demise. Thanks for the pic Scout. I used to walk with my dog, Phineas, here all the time when I lived in Forest Hills. Queens has some amazing places for those willing to do some exploring.
Scout, very, very pretty and just love the way you framed the towers in there.
You need to make a Kickstarter project for this movie. I bet it would get funded in like an hour.
If you like this, cross the Hudson to New Jersey and check out Newark’s gorgeous Branch Brook Park, with the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in America (many more than Washington, DC). The park’ southern end is adjacent to the magnificent Newark Basilica (I forget which saint it’s named for); we go to europe to see buildings like this!
Thanks for all the effort you obviously put into this. I just discovered Scouting NY and it’s great!
