Weekend Homework: Help Me Find These Locations!!
After way too long, I’m finally getting ready to do a new installment of New York, You’ve Changed, in which I compare shooting locations in an older NY movie to the NYC of today (Ghostbusters, Taxi Driver, Rosemary’s Baby). This is one of my favorite features for the site, but unfortunately, researching the locations, taking…
The 5 Locations Low-Budget Films Should Avoid In New York
Every week, I receive numerous requests from no/low budget filmmakers in search of New York City locations for cheap. Some I can help with; most, I simply don’t know where to begin. While it’s certainly possible to make low-budget films in New York, it often requires a personal connection to secure those more difficult locations…
Into The Cabins: Scouting An Abandoned Children’s Camp – Part 2
This is part 2 of our look at Camp Wishe, a children’s sleepaway camp that has been abandoned for more than 15 years. Click here for part 1! Camp Wishe is located on what used to be old Route 6. When the Wishe family purchased the property in the 1940’s, it consisted of a run…
You’re Never Alone
I was taking pictures on an empty side-street in Queens near the East River when I suddenly noticed these five guys staring at me from the back of a truck. Haha, OK, it’s obvious in my pictures that it’s just a very high quality photo, but at the time, thinking I was alone, it definitely…

i’m all for reduce reuse recycle but really combs cost pennies a piece. barbers should just send a comb home w. you like they used to do on school picture day…
You got to love the name “Barbicide”.
Reminds me of a story I saw a while back in the Weekly World News in which eight barbers in Manila began arguing about politics and then commenced to stab each other with their scissors…
My barber shop still uses this stuff.
Barbicide ! Love it .
Brings back fond memories of getting haircuts when I was a kid, and looking at the shelf in front of the chair with a veritable candy store display of pomades, lotions, creams and gels from which to choose post-haircut.
Ewwww! Seeing this makes me appreciate being a long-hair who only gets haircuts every three or four years.
That wouldn’t happen to be the Staten Island Country Club golf course, would it? I remember having much the same reaction when I saw those jars there…
Err, Richmond County Country Club, that is.
I actually can’t think of a babershop or salon around here that DOESN’T have it… Then again, I’m in Pittsburgh, where everything is perpetually 10-20 years behind what it is everywhere else.
Actually ALL upscale clubs seem to have a jar of combs in Barbicide….along with a full range of antiquated grooming supplies: Vitalis, ‘Clubman’ talcum powder, bay rum aftershave, etc.
Four words: the wethead is dead.
it tastes good thats for sure

And it was invented in a Brooklyn bathtub.

I work at an upscale Manhattan spa, and we have jars of these in the locker rooms. Also, a lot of makeup artists still use barbicide solution to clean their brushes!
If you ever get a chance; check out the Deepdale Golf Club in North Hills. It has one of those great scales in the locker room that you see at the Race Track for weighing the jockey and saddle.
Hey there, You’ve done a fantastic job. I will certainly digg it and personally recommend to my friends. I’m sure they’ll be benefited from this website.
