Final St. John Post! How Much We Spent, How To Greet Islanders, and Am I A Shill??
I hope you’ve enjoyed my recent posts on St. John. Like most people, I always assumed the Virgin Islands were just some pretty beaches and pleasant rum drinks. The fact that over 60% of St. John has been protected as a National Park, from its beaches… …to its forests…
Biking on the Bruckner (!!!)
This post will probably only amaze New Yorkers, or really, New Yorkers who drive. But anyone with a car that travels frequently in the outer boroughs pretty much depends on I-278, most of which seems to have been imported from a third world country. It’s insanely busy, always under construction, the speed limit is essentially…
A Quick Check-In With Penelope, The Rescued Pit Bull
For anyone new to the site, in January, my friend found a pit bull chained to the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn, left to die overnight in a horrendous snowstorm. I posted her story here, and despite the fact that about 1 in 800 rescue pit bulls finds a home, she became a sensation, and I…
Locations Puzzler: Where Was This Photo Taken?
A beautiful autumn day on a secluded New York lake. Endless blue sky stretches out over its perfectly mirrored surface. No sounds to be heard other than the rustle of leaves. OK, enough of that. Where was this photo taken?? Give it your best guess in the comments – a general region or area (Catskills,…

i’m all for reduce reuse recycle but really combs cost pennies a piece. barbers should just send a comb home w. you like they used to do on school picture day…
You got to love the name “Barbicide”.
Reminds me of a story I saw a while back in the Weekly World News in which eight barbers in Manila began arguing about politics and then commenced to stab each other with their scissors…
My barber shop still uses this stuff.
Barbicide ! Love it .
Brings back fond memories of getting haircuts when I was a kid, and looking at the shelf in front of the chair with a veritable candy store display of pomades, lotions, creams and gels from which to choose post-haircut.
Ewwww! Seeing this makes me appreciate being a long-hair who only gets haircuts every three or four years.
That wouldn’t happen to be the Staten Island Country Club golf course, would it? I remember having much the same reaction when I saw those jars there…
Err, Richmond County Country Club, that is.
I actually can’t think of a babershop or salon around here that DOESN’T have it… Then again, I’m in Pittsburgh, where everything is perpetually 10-20 years behind what it is everywhere else.
Actually ALL upscale clubs seem to have a jar of combs in Barbicide….along with a full range of antiquated grooming supplies: Vitalis, ‘Clubman’ talcum powder, bay rum aftershave, etc.
Four words: the wethead is dead.
it tastes good thats for sure

And it was invented in a Brooklyn bathtub.

I work at an upscale Manhattan spa, and we have jars of these in the locker rooms. Also, a lot of makeup artists still use barbicide solution to clean their brushes!
If you ever get a chance; check out the Deepdale Golf Club in North Hills. It has one of those great scales in the locker room that you see at the Race Track for weighing the jockey and saddle.
Hey there, You’ve done a fantastic job. I will certainly digg it and personally recommend to my friends. I’m sure they’ll be benefited from this website.
