The Abandoned Farm Cemetery in Queens
Staring down 54th Street from 31st Ave in Woodside, Queens, a street lined with boxy brick apartments and a scant bit of foliage, one would not expect to find one of the oldest cemeteries in New York nestled in amongst the buildings… But there it is, halfway down the block: the Moore-Jackson Cemetery, founded in…
The Skinniest Building in Midtown
Look closely – it’s only wide enough for one window. This renovated brownstone, wedged between two much larger buildings, is only 12.5 feet wide and does not connect with either of the neighboring properties. OK, granted, it isn’t the skinniest building in New York City. That dubious honor belongs to 75 1/2 Bedford St, which…
Stumbling On A Prohibition-Era Bowling Alley Speak-Easy
I received a very unexpected email last week asking if I’d like to check out a hidden prohibition-era bowling alley in Queens. Uh, yes, definitely interested. I took a trip to see it today – Just incredible: According to the owner, the bowling lanes were hidden under boxes and boxes of junk. After researching the property,…
Exploring The (Nearly!) Empty Post Office Building On 8th Ave
The 8th Avenue Post Office is extremely film friendly – shoot me an email for details at nycscout@gmail.com! On October 9th & 10th, 2010, over 350 sites, tours, and events were made available to the public FREE for the annual Open House New York program. Open House New York is…well, an open house of New…
Being Watched
I was recently up scouting the College of Mount St. Vincent, which has a gorgeous campus overlooking the Hudson River. Mount St. Vincent often appears during daylight hours as an archetypal college in movies and TV shows (the movie Doubt in particular). But personally, I love visiting at night. Seriously – how can you beat…
The Creepiest Statue in New York City
The other day, I was scouting the old Customs House building when I suddenly got the feeling I was being watched.

no trump mortuary?
Oh, but just think about how much branding work went into each treatment of the TRUMP name!
How about the beginning of an Eddie Murphy film, that pretty bad too.
He won’t be trumped!
If you go to Lasker Skating Rink (and I imagine the other Trump rinks too) you can pay way too much for a bottle of Trump Water. His face is on the label too!
As of today (5/25/10), his face is on Snapple bottles. Snapple is across the street from my office in the Flatiron Building, giving away bottles of a new iced tea that was created by one of the contestants on Celebrity Apprentice. I was going to pass it by, but my wife pointed out that there’s not much free in this city, and I should grab one while they were available.
Great blog, BTW!
I can’t help but think of his heinous hair-piece when I see those curly tops to the “T’s”…
Would this also serve as a Trump Polling location?
