Was This Midtown Hardware Store Once A Theater?
So here’s a mystery. A few months ago, I got an email from reader Matthew J. advising me to check out Brothers Hardware at 26 West 38th Street. The shop is pretty unassuming from the outside… But go inside…
After Hours At An Amusement Park: Exploring Rye Playland In The Dark
It’s after hours at the amusement park. The rides have all been shut down. Everyone’s gone home. The ticket windows all say “CLOSED.” But why don’t we take a look inside anyway? Because nothing beats an amusement park after hours…
Gone For Good: The Elk Hotel & The Navy Yard Cocktail Lounge Finally Bite The Dust
One of the weirdest little holdovers of a bygone Times Square can be found at 42nd Street and 9th Avenue, where a collection of four-story apartment buildings sit nestled in the shadow of the neighboring skyscrapers.
They’re Watching You Above Madison Square Park
Note: This exhibition is now over. There’s a really great new art installation in and around Madison Square Park… …which serves as a reminder that you should stop worrying about looking like a tourist… …and look up once in a while. Antony Gormley’s installation Event Horizon hit the media this past week, as news outlets…
Pirate Treasure at Dungeon Rock
During the Thanksgiving break this year, I took some time to visit the Lynn Woods in Lynn Massachusetts, a beautiful nature reservation encompassing lakes, swamps, rock formations, a small mountain, endless woodland… …and, according to legend, a pirate treasure that has been buried for centuries. Mandarin Oriental at Columbus Circle?
The Mayflower? Oh wait, that’s not exactly A-list…but I did stay there for a movie job in early 2001 so I remember that view.
The Ritz-Carlton
This is just a shot in the dark, but is it John Lennon’s room? It would be appropriate….
The Plaza.
Since the Post caption is “A view from an A-Lister’s hotel room”; I would say you were at the Carlyle
It is from Columbus Circle — which looks to be Mandarin Oriental – in the Time Warner Center.
The Mayflower hotel has been gone for years – it’s now 15 CPW, which is has some of the most expensive real estate in NYC – that and TWC. I love – and live on the upper west side. This is my hood.
since my DH built the darn TWC, I’m guessing from the angle this is Trump Intl.. a tad north of it.
Essex?

I was going to say 15 Central Park West. Does that have a hotel though? I don’t think so.
