A Very Unusual Marriage Proposal in Queens
For the past week, I’ve been searching meticulously through Google Maps satellite view for a particular style of rooftop, and as I made my way across Long Island City… I happened to notice something unusual on one of the rooftops… A marriage proposal! But what was the story behind this? Did the suitor have his…
1970’s Porno Reveals Long Gone West Village Gas Station! (100% work safe)
For the longest time, I’ve wondered about that odd little building at the corner of Commerce Street and Seventh Avenue South. Shaped like a triangle, it occupies one of the weirdest plots of land in New York… …and even has one of the few white picket fences in the city! 46 Seventh Ave South was…
Was This Midtown Hardware Store Once A Theater?
So here’s a mystery. A few months ago, I got an email from reader Matthew J. advising me to check out Brothers Hardware at 26 West 38th Street. The shop is pretty unassuming from the outside… But go inside…
What Will Happen To Times Sq’s Historic Embassy Theater?
Last year, I wrote a post encouraging everyone to visit the Times Square Visitor Center, regardless of whether you were a tourist or not. At the time, I had ducked in to use the free bathrooms, and was completely surprised to find chandeliers, marble accents and gold-framed posters in the entranceway… …wood-paneled walls with gilded…
The Financial District Pharaohs
I’m not sure how well you can see these from the ground, but adorning the corners of this building are some great pharaohs, complete with headdresses and wings: As a sidenote, if you look at the buildings to the left, you’ll see some bear heads keeping watch: -SCOUT
The Smallest Graveyard In Manhattan
One of my favorite cemeteries in New York is so small, I must have walked by it dozens of times in my travels before I first noticed it. Don’t feel bad if you’ve missed it too. Lined by residential buildings, it’s only natural to assume the short stretch of fencing on the south side of…

Since I view the site on Google Reader, I can see posts even after you deleted them. So, my answer to the A-Lister hotel is the Trump International. Was I right?
Yeah, Trump would have been my guess too. Incidently, the tall white hotel tower on opposite side of the park is The Pierre. It’s former ballroom is now a penthouse for sale. Might be interesting to do a piece on that, as it is supposed to be quite something.
Mandarin Oriental at Columbus Circle?
The Mayflower? Oh wait, that’s not exactly A-list…but I did stay there for a movie job in early 2001 so I remember that view.
The Ritz-Carlton
This is just a shot in the dark, but is it John Lennon’s room? It would be appropriate….
The Plaza.
Since the Post caption is “A view from an A-Lister’s hotel room”; I would say you were at the Carlyle
It is from Columbus Circle — which looks to be Mandarin Oriental – in the Time Warner Center.
The Mayflower hotel has been gone for years – it’s now 15 CPW, which is has some of the most expensive real estate in NYC – that and TWC. I love – and live on the upper west side. This is my hood.
since my DH built the darn TWC, I’m guessing from the angle this is Trump Intl.. a tad north of it.
Essex?
בתי מלון, אין על מי לסמוך חייב לבדוק מלונות לעוף מפה !!
I was going to say 15 Central Park West. Does that have a hotel though? I don’t think so.
