A Tree Grows in Queens (Right Through An Auto Body Shop!)
I was driving down 27th Ave in Astoria the other day when a rather large tree in front of an auto body shop caught my eye. Nothing too special about a random tree…but something didn’t seem right… …And then I realized: was that tree growing through the auto body shop??

Stumbling On A Prohibition-Era Bowling Alley Speak-Easy
I received a very unexpected email last week asking if I’d like to check out a hidden prohibition-era bowling alley in Queens. Uh, yes, definitely interested. Thanks for the pic Scout. I used to walk with my dog, Phineas, here all the time when I lived in Forest Hills. Queens has some amazing places for those willing to do some exploring.
Scout, very, very pretty and just love the way you framed the towers in there.

If you like this, cross the Hudson to New Jersey and check out Newark’s gorgeous Branch Brook Park, with the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in America (many more than Washington, DC). The park’ southern end is adjacent to the magnificent Newark Basilica (I forget which saint it’s named for); we go to europe to see buildings like this!
Thanks for all the effort you obviously put into this. I just discovered Scouting NY and it’s great!
