The Weirdest Beach in New York City
The path to New York City’s weirdest beach is actually quite pleasant. After walking some distance along the quiet trail, the trees gradually disappear, replaced by reeds swaying gently in the breeze. When you finally arrive at the beach, perhaps passing a couple of bikes leaning against an old wooden bench, you might feel as…
Is This The Weirdest House In New York City?
I’ve been doing a lot of scouting in the Bronx recently, which is great because it’s the borough I know the least and I keep finding interesting little things at every turn. Case in point, I was driving down St. Lawrence Avenue last week… …when I passed by this house: Now, at first glance, you…
Those Creepy Fake Mickey Rides…
Is it just me, or does anyone else get creeped out by the bizarre knock-off Mickey rides often found outside bodegas around New York? I have no idea why it’s automatically delightful whenever Disney anthropomorphizes animals, and I know this is the exact same idea…but something just feels off about it. Also, the idea of…
A Tree Grows in Queens (Right Through An Auto Body Shop!)
I was driving down 27th Ave in Astoria the other day when a rather large tree in front of an auto body shop caught my eye. Nothing too special about a random tree…but something didn’t seem right… …And then I realized: was that tree growing through the auto body shop??

OK, is it just me, or does this sign for Marshall’s Greenpoint Fish Factory… …look a hell of a lot like the logo for Marshall’s the discount clothing chain? Just something I wonder about every time I get on the BQE from Greenpoint. -SCOUT
Please Do Not Urinate On The Smallest Street In Manhattan
Weehawken Street, located as far west in the Village as you can go, bears the title of Manhattan’s smallest street. I can only assume it also holds one other record… Having the most signs asking people not to pee on it: Literally, there are four signs hung on the block all requesting the same courtesy……

Don’t know if that’s David Crow (kinda looks like him), if not, it’s a direct riff on Crow’s “Red Stiletto” which was a fixture in the Houston Art Car Parade for a few years until being retired to the museum.

It’s way cool to see the shoe driving around.
Pumpity pump
haha…I wonder if this is the show that was parked outside the Marshall’s shoe store right by 8th & B’Way. The store didn’t last long, and the ‘shoe-mobile’ I think was only there for a few days. Maybe it actually had nothing to do with Marshall’s….
Like Ed Sullivan said “It’s a really big shoe…”
Does it take “high-heel test”?
I really enjoy your Scouting reports.
